"While working as a secondary school teacher I decided I wanted to return to study and become an educational psychologist. I am juggling study with family, so convenience of location was one benefit of ACU. However I mainly chose to study at ACU because of the teaching staff.
My studies have reinforced my desire to support children and adolescents with their struggles. I’m happiest when I see children smiling and achieving.
I’ve found my course to be really beneficial. My studies have emphasised the need to view problems from the perspective of the person experiencing them. My research and related placements have shown me that parents, teachers and carers need support so they in turn can support the children in their care.
The best part of my studies is that I get to research really complex issues in depth. I’ve learnt so much, and my degree has provided me with some amazing moments – one in particular is a long-term commitment to a young child I saw for counselling during a placement. It was very challenging, but really rewarding, to stick with it beyond the expectations of the placement."
