Celebrating a golden era

Celebrating a golden era

In 2013, ACU’s Canberra Campus will celebrate its golden jubilee - 50 years in higher education.

Born during a time of phenomenal hope and vision for Australia, the Signadou Teachers College was officially opened on March 24,1963, by Prime Minister Robert Menzies.

Campus Dean, Associate Professor Patrick McArdle, said Signadou College pioneered innovations in teaching and learning - preparing professionals for the ACT region and more
rural settings.

“The intervening years have seen the change from a college educating only religious women preparing to become teachers, to the welcoming of lay people also seeking to become educators, to now being part of the fastest growing university in Australia – with programs in health sciences, social welfare, education and theology
