Important Information

Community involvement
Community involvement is an important part of the Early Achievers’ Application process. At Australian Catholic University we intend for our students to become not only highly competent in their chosen fields, but also ethical in their behaviour, with an appreciation of the sacred in life, and a commitment to serving the common good. That is why evidence of other forms of learning, both formal and informal, is needed. We require evidence of community involvement in a school, church, sporting, cultural or other community-based organisation, or examples of care-giving responsibilities.

Year 12 results
Australian Catholic University is looking for students with the ability and enthusiasm to succeed – something that is not always reflected solely in Year 12 results. That is why the University asks for evidence of community involvement and a statement from the school and community representative. The University also understands that sometimes illness or family circumstances can prevent students from achieving results hoped for in Year 12. Evidence of these factors (such as a medical certificate) can be provided in support of the application. Year 12 results will be considered to ensure applicants meet the University’s minimum eligibility score and individual subject prerequisites for their selected course.

Non-recent school leavers
The Early Achievers’ Program caters for both Year 12 school leavers and non-school leavers. The program is designed to recognise achievements and experiences after leaving school (including professional and community service involvement). For more information see EAP – Non-School Leavers.

Statement of support
For Year 12 students, a statement from the school will act as further evidence of an applicants’ enthusiasm and aptitude for study, participation in school life and any extenuating circumstances that may have prevented a student achieving their desired school results.

For both Year 12 school leavers and non-school leavers, a statement from a senior person involved in the relevant community organisation is required to support and endorse the applicant's statement of involvement.

Religion
Australian Catholic University is a public university funded by the Australian Government and open to students and staff of all beliefs and backgrounds.

Application process
If an application is made for the Early Achievers’ Program, the applicant will still be required to apply through the relevant Tertiary Admissions Centre for his/her chosen course. When completing the application, the applicant should list courses in which they have a genuine interest and for which they expect to qualify. Submitting an application through the Early Achievers’ Program does not prevent you from applying for admission to any other course, whether at Australian Catholic University or any other post-secondary provider.

Offer process
If an application is successful, the applicant will receive notification to that effect. The formal offer of a place needs to be made through the Tertiary Admissions Centre (TAC). The offer will be subject to satisfying specific prerequisite requirements for the course (eg: subject prerequisites, interview or audition requirements). The student must also achieve the University’s minimum eligibility score (currently an ENTER/UAI or rank of at least 55 or an OP of at least 19).

Places available
Up to 50 per cent of commencing undergraduate places at Australian Catholic University are available through the Early Achievers’ Program.

Application closing date
Applications close on Friday 9 October 2009. Applications received by the closing date will be assessed by the University and the successful applicants will be contacted by mid-November.

The Early Achievers’ Program is not open to international students. International students should register their interest in study at Australian Catholic University by contacting the International Education Office at international.admissions@acu.edu.au or telephone +61 2 9739 2437.
