Information for Students
The purpose of the units Social Work Field Placement (1 & 2) is to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, to test out the propositions gained from other units and to incorporate new knowledge drawn from their field placement experience in the agency, organisational and community settings.
In their first placement, (a minimum of 500 hours in duration) students are usually placed in settings which require direct practice with individuals and provide the opportunity to exercise knowledge developed in first year units.
The purpose of the field placement in the second year ( a minimum of 500 hours in duration) is to build on the objectives and outcomes of the first year. In the second placement students extend their learning opportunities by undertaking work such as community development, research, policy development and service evaluation.
