Public lectures

The Institute offers an annual free program of public lectures – usually in one or more locations, including Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The lecture topics address the interface of important contemporary legal, ethical and social issues.

2008 calendar of lectures

The inaugural Director of the ILS delivered his inaugural address in Melbourne on 29 May 2008 and in Brisbane on 12 June 2008, on the topic, 'Towards a Global Rule of Law'. 

A lecture by Professor Stephen Green, Professor of Human Rights at Bristol University, will be given on 12 December 2008. Details to be advised. You can register your interest in this event at ils@acu.edu.au.

2006 lectures

Thursday 2nd November 2006  - Therapeutic Cloning: What are the facts? What's right? What should our politicians do? ACU National, Melbourne Campus (St Patrick's).

The Institute, together with ACU National, hosted a free public lecture on the topic of therapeutic cloning and stem cell research. Speakers included prominent scientists, Catholics, academics and social advocates:

September 2006 - The Institute held its annual series of free public lectures during the month of September. These were held as public forums, on the topic Australia's New Workplace Law: What is a fair deal for young people?

The forums were moderated by Professor Frank Brennan sj, AO, and included a panel of guest speakers in each State. This lecture series provided an opportunity to hear from an eminent lawyer and social justice advocate, as well as other guest speakers on a very important legal and social issue.

2005 lectures

The Institute of Legal Studies Inaugural public lecture 2005: Mixing law, religion and politics, was held at the North Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane campuses of ACU National.
