First preference applications on the rise at ACU National

Australian Catholic University (ACU National) is strengthening it's position as the university of choice for high-achieving students, with applications for bachelors degrees up 20.7 per cent nationally on this time last year.

First preference applications have seen an increase of 10.4 per cent nationally, and an impressive 49 per cent for Queensland, 4.1 per cent for Victoria, and 8.4 per cent for New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

The University's education and nursing courses are performing particularly strongly.

At the University's Canberra Campus, first preference applications rose 32.3 per cent for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) and 71.4 per cent for the Bachelor of Nursing.

The Brisbane Campus has seen first preference applications rise 58.5 per cent for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) and 34.4 per cent for the Bachelor of Nursing.

In Victoria, first preference applications at the University's Melbourne Campus rose 25.9 per cent for the Bachelor of Psychology, and 18.9 per cent at the Ballarat Campus for the Bachelor of Education (Primary).

First preference applications rose 5.3 per cent for the Bachelor of Nursing at the University's North Sydney Campus, and 10.8 per cent for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) at the Strathfield Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven said he was delighted with the figures, which reflect the Universitys strong reputation for quality teaching.

"ACU National has the largest education faculty in the country, and a long tradition of producing experienced teachers and educational leaders," he said. "We are also the largest provider of graduate nurses in Australia."
