Concert to commemorate Blessed Mary MacKillop

The centenary of the death of Blessed Mary MacKillop, a woman whose name has become synonymous with great vision, outstanding holiness and heroic character, will be commemorated on Sunday, 8 November.

Australian Catholic University, in partnership with the Sisters of St Joseph, will host the Mary MacKillop 100 Concert featuring unique performances from over 250 Catholic school and University students.

Held at Brisbane City Hall, under the direction of Australian Catholic University's Brisbane Campus Minister, Andrew Beiers and Senior Drama, Lecturer Dr Tracey Sanders, the concert will include a dramatic recount of significant moments in Marys life.

Drama student, Megan Hancock, will feature as Mary MacKillop, with five other actors represent various individuals who influenced Marys life.

Drama student and concert actress, Cat Martin, said she is excited to participate in the concert.

"The drama piece is not just factual, but also aims to be dramatic and entertaining," said Cat. "This will be the biggest show Ive ever been involved in. We are expecting an audience of approximately 1500 people!"

Co-Director Andrew Beiers said working with over 250 young people has been an enlightening experience.

It has been fantastic to see how passionate the students are about Mary MacKillop, said Andrew. It really has surprised me to see the students living her charisism and compassion in everyday life.

Born on 15 January 1842 in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, directly opposite the Universitys Melbourne Campus, Blessed Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to works and values which resonate deeply with the Universitys mission.
