High quality research

"I really enjoy seeing my students mature in their knowledge of how to undertake high quality research."

ACU National’s Professor Sandy Middleton RN PhD is Director of the Nursing Research Unit, St Vincents and Mater Health Sydney and Director of the University’s National Centre for Clinical Outcomes Research (NaCCOR).

"The overarching focus at NaCCOR is on excellence in patient care," Professor Middleton said.

"NaCCOR is emerging as an important and significant contributor nationally to health services research.  Our ability to link researchers across the multiple ACU National campuses and also to work with other key researchers in specialty areas puts us in a unique position.

We really want to demonstrate that some methods of patient care delivery are superior to others and also to provide hard evidence of effectiveness of what works best.  It’s also important to obtain qualitative data about what constitutes better patient care from both the provider and patient perspectives.

I love nutting out a research project - working out the most rigorous way we could answer the research question to provide the highest level of evidence for the effectiveness of an intervention.

It is also especially rewarding to see research students learn, and to know you are sending graduates out into the research community with good solid research training that will serve them well in any future research career they might have."
