Values

Australian Catholic University seeks to attend to all that is of concern to human beings, guided by a fundamental concern for justice and equity, and the rights and dignity of all human beings.

Drawing on its inheritance of Catholic social teaching, the University seeks to give expression to the preferential option for the poor and to stand in solidarity with all, but most especially with those persons and communities who find themselves at the margins of society.

Inspired by 2000 years of Catholic intellectual tradition, Australian Catholic University brings to all its activities a distinctive spiritual perspective. By nurturing a mutuality of respect, it invites those who partner with it to participate, contribute and benefit as fully as possible in the work of social transformation.

This mutual respect calls forth a number of qualities in the partners: transparency, probity, flexibility, cultural sensitivity, joint planning and accountability, an honest working through of any conflict situations, and an avoidance of dependency.

In this way Australian Catholic University gives witness to a spirituality of communion which offers genuine hope for development and transformation to individuals and communities.

Valuing competence, ethical behaviour, a developed critical habit of mind, an appreciation of the sacred in life, and a commitment to serving the common good, the University has a commitment to quality in all its endeavours.
