School of Theology
At ACU National, theology shares with philosophy and the social sciences a common vision and a collaborative concern for truth, justice, ethical values and the dignity of the human person.
Theology is an integral part of the Catholic intellectual tradition, as faith seeks a critical understanding of its doctrines and values, and addresses the questions posed by the contemporary world.
In particular, theology at ACU National aims to:
- promote the integrity and creativity of Catholic thought and practice within an ecumenical context
- provide an understanding of Christian theology that is pastoral and practical in focus
- encourage dialogue between the Judaeo-Christian tradition and today's culture in such domains as ethics, social justice, spirituality and art
- support and enable interfaith communication within the multicultural situation of Australia today
- develop the skills necessary for ecclesial ministry and pastoral leadership
- deepen the appreciation of the sacred in personal experience and social life
- collaborate with philosophy, the social sciences, and art in all its forms in the context of Christian ministry and leadership.
- The national School of Theology offers courses in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, and is part of the Institute of Theology, Philosophy and Religious Education.
