Supplementary Courses - Social Work
As the Bachelor of Social Work progam at ACU National is an accelerated program (2 years full-time) it is assumed that applicants have completed the requirements of a year of study of the individual (behavioural science of psychology) and a year of study of society (sociology).
In the absence of either or both, applicants are required to successfully complete the relevant supplementary course prior to commencing the Bachelor of Social Work.
Why study Psychology?
The Psychology supplementary course is designed to enable students without a prior knowledge of psychology, to gain a basic understanding of psychological concepts, which will provide a foundation for their future studies in the BSW program. The course is primarily a reading course, which students will complete prior to commencing formal studies in the BSW program.
Why study Sociology?
Sociology is one of the core academic disciplines that underlie social work theory and practice. Sociology and social work have had a long and productive relationship for more than one hundred years. The course is primarily a reading course and students will complete prior to commencing formal studies in the BSW program. This course seeks to provide students with a basic understanding of social thought, social organisation, social structure and social systems. The themes pursued in the course are identity; globalisation and inequality; and power and knowledge.
