Courses at The Institute of Legal Studies
Information about our courses, individual units offered in 2008 and how to apply
ILS currently offers postgraduate courses, which are available on a part-time basis. You can enrol in a postgraduate course which leads to an award of the University or enrol in individual postgraduate subjects/units on a non-award basis.
The offering of units and courses may be subject to meeting minimum enrolment numbers and the availability of staff. The choice of elective units (where applicable) may be limited in a particular study period and/or particular location.

A postgraduate Human Rights course is currently being developed. More information will be available in mid 2009. If you are interested in studying human rights at ILS, you can find out more or register your interest at ils@acu.edu.au.

Re-enrolment for 2009
The re-enrolment cut-off date is Sunday 30 November 2008.
If you are a current student at ILS and wish to continue your course in 2009 but haven't yet re-enrolled, please do so online (at the ACU website) or contact your local Student Centre for assistance. Penalties for late enrolment may apply.
Units (and their mode) offered in Semester 1, 2009 (February 23 - May 22, 2009) are:
- LEGL500 Introduction to Education Law - fully online.
- LEGL501 Governance in Catholic Schools - fully online. Subject to meeting minimum enrolment numbers.
- LEGL517 Governance of Independent and State Schools - fully online. Subject to meeting minimum enrolment numbers.
Units (and their mode) offered in Semester 2, 2009 (July 27 - October 23, 2009) are:
- LEGL502 Legal Obligations and Rights - fully online.
- LEGL503 Managing Legal Issues - fully online.
Modes of study
In 2009, courses and units are available in fully online mode only.
Fully online
Study is fully online, allowing for flexible and interactive learning. Students are required to login via the internet to complete readings, activites and take part in online chat sessions and discussions.

Individual subjects/units of study
You may choose to study individual subjects/units in legal studies and successful completion of one or more units may be credited towards one of the above courses. The amount of credit available in a particular program is defined under the University's Academic Regulations.
Please note that the offering of units may be subject to availability.
Audit
Individual units are available to be taken in audit (non-assessable) mode.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
Courses in continuing legal education (CLE) will also be offered by the Institute. These will be designed to meet the professional needs of legal practitioners. CLE units and programs are currently being developed. Find out more about the CLE program.

How to apply for courses
You can apply online at www.acu.edu.au, where course information, course identifiers and links to the online admission and enrolment module - Student Connect - are available.
Online applications for study in Semester 1, 2009 close in December 2008. Late applications may be accepted, but may be subject to availability or penalties. Contact your local Student Centre for assistance with a late application.
