Stuart Mills

Stuart MillsWhile studying for a Bachelor of Human Movement, Ballarat Campus student Stuart Mills realised that his passion is assisting people in need of emergency response care.

“When I went on work placement with a physiotherapist it just didn’t fit for me,” he said. “I love sport but I realised that I wanted to help people in their time of need so I started investigating courses in paramedicine, and found ACU’s dual degree in paramedicine and nursing.”

Stuart volunteered at the local YMCA and with local schools so he applied for the Early Achievers’ Program, and was thrilled to be accepted.

The popular program, now in its third year, offers places to students who demonstrate a commitment to their communities as well as their studies.

“It was great to be recognised for my volunteer work as well as my previous studies,” Stuart said. “ACU is a small university and the lecturers remember your name and are willing to help out no matter how stupid you might think your question is.”

“The coursework really focuses on the practical side of being a paramedic or nurse. It’s structured really well, so you learn the theory first and then put the theory into practice,” said Scott. “If you’re thinking about applying for the Early Achievers’ Program, go for it. Let the University know how dedicated and passionate you are to pursue your career and study your chosen course.”
