Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research)
Professor Thomas Martin commenced as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Australian Catholic University (ACU National) in October 2009. Professor Martin is the senior executive responsible for Research and the Public Policy Institute.
Professor Martin has a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Diploma of Veterinary Pathology, Doctor of Philsophy, and a Master of Business Administration, all awarded by the University of Sydney.
Professor Martin has a distinguished scholarly record which includes publications in neurotoxicology, biomedical implants and orthopaedics, diabetes research and analgesia in national and international journals. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Comparative Medicine and the Journal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
Since 2004 he has held concurrent positions at Columbia University, New York as
- Associate Vice-President (Research)
- Professor of Pathology, and
- Director of the Institute of Comparative Medicine.
He has also held appointments at The Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the State University of New York, and the University of New South Wales.
In his roles at Columbia University, his broad responsibilities included management of 130 staff and a US$17 million budget, facilitation and optimisation of research activities, development of strategic plans and a global plan to harmonise research standards on Columbia University's two campuses.
