Excellence in Research Australia (ERA)

The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative has been developed by the Australian Research Council (ARC). ERA assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally recognised experts.

ERA identifies by institution and by discipline;

  • areas that are internationally competitive; and
  • emerging areas where there are opportunities for development and further investment
  • research strength against international benchmarks

In the recently published ERA 2010 National Outcomes, which applies to research undertaken between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2008, ACU achieved world standard ranking in four key discipline areas.

ACU achieved a result above world standard (rating 4), and well in excess of the Australian average, in the discipline of Religion and Religious Studies. ACU also achieved world standard results with a rating of 3 in the disciplines of Curriculum and Pedagogy, Nursing and Law.

The ERA 2010 National Report is now available.

The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research announced on 25 October 2010 that the next round of ERA will take place in 2012.  For ERA 2012, the reference period for research outputs is 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2010 and the eligible researcher census date is 31 March 2011.  Further details, including how ACU will prepare for ERA 2012, will be provided as they become available.
