Asia-Pacific Centre for Inter-Religious Dialogue

The Asia-Pacific Centre for Inter-Religious Dialogue (APCID) takes its inspiration from the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue (PCID).

APCID Mission

Through research and scholarship, teaching and learning, and community engagement to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between Christians and followers of other religions.

APCID General Goal

To promote, from an academic context, collaboration in the search for truth, respectful dialogue and peaceful relations between Christian and other religious traditions and communities.

APCID Objectives

  • Provide leadership, coherence and direction to present and future initiatives and involvements in inter-religious dialogue occurring at Australian Catholic University.
  • Make a sustained intellectual contribution to the furtherance of inter-religious dialogue from the perspective of the Catholic tradition, and foster similar intellectual enquiry in other faith traditions.
  • Promote international research in inter-religious dialogue and co-operation.
  • Promote the formation of persons dedicated to inter-religious dialogue, especially religious leaders, educators and business, welfare and health professionals.
  • Encourage and support the study of religions in schools.
  • Assist in educating and motivating Catholic and other faith communities to take up the challenge to participate actively in inter-religious dialogue and activities.
  • Develop best practice in attending to pastoral dimensions of inter-religious dialogue.
