Centre of Physical Activity Across the Lifespan
CoPAAL was established by the Faculty of Health Sciences, in 2004. The aim was to improve research productivity in the School of Exercise Science through the fostering of research performance and the pursuit of excellence in the understanding of physical activity across the lifespan. Our research projects address physical activity, health and sport issues from children through to older adults.
CoPAAL contributes to the University mission by:
• Striving to preserve a spirit of free inquiry and academic integrity. The Centre remains committed to quality in research, research supervision, and services. Strategic professional development and adherence to policies on rights, responsibilities and welfare are part of on-going quality control.
• Nurturing a distinctive spiritual perspective exists in research where physical activity is the investigated and respected pathway across the lifespan.
• Upholding a fundamental concern for justice and equity and for the dignity of human beings through understanding more about the process and consequences of physical activity within the context of the lifespan.
To this end, we have supported research training processes and values to ensure graduates are ethical in their behaviour and show a profound respect for the spiritual mind. We believe our research graduates are internationally employable and demonstrate a strong commitment to serving the common good.
Research Vision
The vision statement for CoPAAL is:
To achieve international recognition for excellence in research within two major research strengths:
1. Exercise in Preventive Medicine
2. Sports Science
