Cardiovascular Research Centre

The Cardiovascular Research Centre (CvRC) was established in 2009 as a joint collaboration between St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Australian Catholic University (ACU) and the University of Melbourne.

The objectives of the CvRC are:

  • to conduct both basic and clinical outcomes-focused research;
  • to provide research training and higher education career pathways for medical, nursing and other allied health professionals; and
  • to educate the public and develop better health care initiatives for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

The Centre is directed by Professor Robert Whitbourn from St Vincent's and ACU's Professor Linda Worrall-Carter. It aims to conduct interdisciplinary research using a collaborative approach - with results being directly integrated into clinical practice.

Funding is provided by the partners and is supplemented through a variety of means including private and public grants from a number of sources. ACU has committed itself to this partnership due to its strong alignment with the University’s research focus on clinical outcome-focused health research. The CvRC partnership has already boosted the University’s research culture through its success in producing results via an interdisciplinary, multi-partner approach.
