ENGL213 Sacred Australia
10 cp
Prerequisites 1 Literature unit at introductory 100-level
Teaching Organisation A range of teaching procedures, including lectures, tutorials, and screenings will be used.
This unit explores the relationship between literature, the arts and religion (defined in its broadest sense as the quest for the sacred). The unit takes as its focus literature and the arts in Australia and begins with an overview of key symbols that have attracted the Australian religious imagination: Landscape, Exploration, Suburbia, and the Aboriginal Presence. These symbols are interrogated with the question: Can literature and art provide a source of spiritual renewal?
