EDSS434 Studies of Society and Environment Curriculum and Teaching Studies 1

This unit prepares students for teaching studies of society and environment (SOSE) courses in secondary schools. Students will become familiar with the importance of the social sciences, SOSE and its background, the relevant syllabuses and the relationship between SOSE and thinking and learning.
SOSE is a complex learning area, which encompasses the disciplines of history, Geography, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, Law, and the learning area of civics and environmental studies. The unit provides opportunities for students to investigate the philosophical and pedagogical characteristics of the key learning area and to consider various ways of translating syllabus requirements into worthwhile curriculum units and teaching experiences.
