Growth and progress
Growth in enrolments at ACU, 2004-2008
ACU has been encouraged by steady growth in student enrolments and staff numbers over the past five years. This growth is forecast to continue following an increase in enrolments for 2009.
The 2008 figures of nearly 17,000 students and more than 1,200 staff, compared with those of 2004, represent growth of 40 per cent for student numbers and 28 per cent for staff, with a 31 per cent increase in academic staff.

Our staff
The Good Universities Guide’s five-star rating for staff qualifications compares favourably nationally. Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven has attributed much of the improvement in enrolment figures to the commitment of staff members to providing a quality and responsive learning environment.
Our students
A number of opportunities are made available to students at ACU including extra-curricular activities, scholarships and bursaries and support services.
Courses introduced in 2008
- Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine (Ballarat)
- Diploma of Exercise Science
- Postgraduate Certificate in Human Services for Caritas Australia staff
- Graduate Certificate in Arts (Applied Ethics) for St Vincent's and Mater Health Sydney (SVMHS) staff.
Courses approved for 2009
- Undergraduate degree courses in Midwifery and Paramedicine
- Master of Clinical Nursing and Master of Nursing (Practice Enquiry)
- Master of Psychology (Clinical) (Brisbane).
The Human Resource Management Major offered in the Bachelor of Business was accredited by the Australian Human Resources Institute for three years from August 2008.
Units including Reasoning and Communications and Applied Business Information, for the new Bachelor of Business Information Systems degree were offered.
New environments
- Major refurbishments were carried out at the Strathfield and Ballarat campuses
- additional space was leased for the Melbourne and North Sydney campuses
- progress was made on the Peter Sheehan building to provide further facilities for the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Brisbane Campus. The building is named in honour of the previous Vice-Chancellor.
