Australian Catholic University (ACU) students have bagged a bundle of medals during the first few days of competition at the Southern University Games.
Occupational therapy student Georgia Brock took out gold in the women’s 8km cross-country event, with education student Michelle Delaney taking bronze. Exercise science student Nathan Buschkuehl also won bronze, in the men’s cross-country event.
More than 100 students from all six campuses are representing ACU at the Southern University Games in the La Trobe Valley, and the Eastern University Game in Tamworth this month.
They will compete in cross-country, golf, netball, basketball, ten-pin bowling, volleyball and touch football.
Mark Young, Campus Life Coordintaor at ACU, said the University was still performing strongly after several days of competition.
“With our students coming from all six of ACU’s campuses it can be a challenge to play together as a team when they haven’t previously met in person,” he said. “However we have some fantastic students at ACU and fostering a strong sense of camaraderie between team mates is never a problem.”
“The ACU team have also coordinated yellow into their uniforms to raise awareness for the Cancer Council’s Call to Arms campaign. We’re very proud of our students for getting behind this initiative and making a positive impact in the wider community.”
The Eastern University Games and Southern University Games will give teams the opportunity to qualify for the Australian University Games to be held in Adelaide in September.
