You have your school results and will be starting university in a few months. What’s next? ACU answers your FAQ.
I’ve applied to university, but what if I want to change my preference?
You have until 20 December 2016 in Victoria, 6 January 2017 in NSW and ACT and 9 January 2017 in Queensland to change your preference.
Even if your ATAR is lower than you think you need for your preferred course, check if you qualify for Adjustment Factors to help make up the required mark.
Come to an ACU Know Your Options information session to find out what choices are available to you. Details below to find the closest session to you.
How long are most courses? Can I study part-time and are any units offered online?
Most undergraduate courses are three to four years full-time (longer, if studied part-time), while postgraduate courses range from six months to two years full-time. Many of our courses allow you to vary your study load for each study period. Unit offerings change annually, though most are offered face-to-face unless you are enrolled in an online course.
What happens if I don’t meet the ATAR/OP requirements for entry into a course?
Don’t panic, there is always another option. We offer a number of alternative pathway programs or you can complete a Certificate IV or higher at TAFE and re-apply for the course again.
I didn’t complete HSC/UAI how else can I get into university?
If you have completed any studies higher than a Certificate IV then you may be eligible to apply for a course at ACU. Otherwise if you are over 21 years old you can complete a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) which will strengthen your application.
Is there parking available on-campus and do I have to pay for it?
Limited free parking is available at our Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra and Strathfield Campuses. Public transport is a popular travel option. Many trains and buses arrive at our campuses, and there is a free ACU Shuttle Bus is many cases. Major bike and walking routes also pass close to campus gates. ACU aims to help students and staff to choose the most sustainable way to travel to and from campus.
What do I do if I’ve already been made an offer?
You will need to wait for your official offer email from the university with instructions on enrolling into your course. You can also contact our friendly staff at AskACU.
Does ACU organise professional placements?
Many courses require students to complete professional placements as part of their studies. Some courses have specific requirements to ensure students meet professional registration obligations. Other courses offer students the flexibility to tailor their work placements to suit their learning needs. ACU has multiple Placement Coordinators to assist students in finding the right placement. We organise the majority of placements for our students.
What services are available to assist me in my first year of university?
ACU provides an extensive range of support services to all students throughout your degree. ACU responds to individual needs, providing quality support services and programs to students, helping them to develop to their full potential, and providing assistance or guidance as required.
