The most exceptional pieces of artwork by Year 12 students will be showcased at Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) McGlade Gallery when ARTEXPRESS opens at Strathfield this month.
ARTEXPRESS is an exhibition of outstanding works by 2013 Higher School Certificate visual arts students from across NSW.
More than 30 pieces will represent students from schools all over the state, including Camden High School, Lithgow High School, The Scots School and St Leo’s Catholic College. Head of the School of Education, Dr Karen Maras, and McGlade Gallery curator, Lachlan Warner, worked with ACU art education students late last year to make a selection of works that related to the university.
"We particularly looked at curating works that sat well within the mission statement of the University – social justice and inclusion," Mr Warner said.
"The works that stood out for us made it clear that the artists in 2013 were not some stereotypical social media-obsessed teenagers, but were very much capable of looking deeply at social and cultural issues in their art. We also tried to get a balance in the selection of different art forms, and a range of schools, though with an emphasis on schools in our area."
ARTEXPRESS is presented by the NSW Department of Education and Communities and the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW in association with ACU.
