VCs debate university funding in the Asian Century
Wednesday, 12 June 2013
ACU VC Professor Greg Craven will debate his UNSW counterpart Professor Fred Hilmer.
The two Vice-Chancellors will debate the issue of higher education on Thursday at the Australian Learning and Teaching Fellows’ open forum examining “Australian Universities in the Asian Century”. They will discuss the topic: In the Asian Century, university funding should be directed toward the development of a global outlook for all graduates, and away from [on-campus] support for students in the widening participation agenda.
Professor Hilmer will argue that university funding should privilege the development of a global outlook for all graduates. Professor Craven will then argue that university funding should privilege support of university students as part of the widening participation (Bradley) agenda.
Professor Craven will take questions from the audience and will answer questions from journalists after the debate.
