The first Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) is being held at Australian Catholic University’s Melbourne Campus until Saturday.
With more than 3000 young people from around Australia registered to attend, the ACYF is the largest national gathering of Catholic youth since World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney. Fifteen Catholic bishops are also expected to attend.
The purpose of the ACYF is to provide opportunities for Australian Catholic Church leaders to listen to and engage with young people on contemporary issues and concerns in their lives. Participants will have the opportunity to hear a variety of keynote speakers, attend concerts and workshops, and engage in a variety of faith-based activities with their peers.
"Australian Catholic University is proud to be a partner with the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference in this great initiative to engage young people in the faith," said Father Anthony Casamento, director of Identity and Mission at ACU.
