Dr Stephen Weller has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at ACU.
Dr Weller joins ACU from James Cook University where he is currently Deputy Vice‐Chancellor (University Services) and Head of the Cairns Campus. He has also held positions as Pro Vice‐Chancellor of Students and Technology at Victoria University in Melbourne and as Campus Manager of the University of Queensland, Gatton.
With more than 20 years experience in tertiary education across five universities in three states, Dr Weller brings a wealth of experience to ACU. He holds a PhD in Organisational Justice from Victoria University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Technology, Sydney, a Master of Commerce, Employment Relations from the University of Western Sydney, and a Bachelor of Arts, Government and Public Administration from the University of Sydney.
Professor Greg Craven, ACU Vice-Chancellor, welcomed Dr Weller to the university and said his skills and experience would be a great asset to ACU. “Dr Weller has long demonstrated a strong commitment to balancing the needs of students, academia, university and community. I congratulate him on his appointment, and am look forward to his joining us at ACU in such an important leadership role.”
Dr Weller takes up his position on 02 April 2013. He replaces outgoing COO John Cameron, who is retiring after almost 40 years in higher education administration. Mr Cameron has been with ACU since 1998, most recently as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Resources).
