27 August 2008: Australian Catholic University (ACU) in conjunction with Catenians, an international fraternity of Catholic laymen, will host a series of public forums discussing the road to 'goodwill' from different religious perspectives.
“By active engagement we overcome xenophobia, racism, ignorance, ghettoisation and hatred,” said ACU’s Asia-Pacific Centre for Interreligious Dialogue (APCID) Fethullah Gulen Chair in the Study of Islam and Muslim-Catholic Relations Professor Ismail Albayrak, one of the presenters.
“One God in a divided world is very timely,” said ACU Institute for Advancing Community Engagement Director Professor Jude Butcher. “At a time when people are very conscious of conflict and tension, this event brings people from different faith traditions and cultures together to consider the dignity of people and the humanity that we share.”
Other presenters include Peta Jones Pellach from The Shalom Institute, Reverend Father Patrick McInerney SSC from the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Dialogue, APCID Adjunct Professor Rabbi John Levi AM, Dr Maryanne Confoy RSC and ACU Associate Professor and Ballarat Campus (Aquinas) Rector Ann Hunt.
Each forum will run for 90 minutes with a 20-minute presentation from three different scholars representing Muslim, Jewish and Christian perspectives, followed by discussion. The forums are Catenian Centenary Legacy Events, celebrating the centenary of the Catenian Association.
