Our Education Programs aim to provide academic and social support to students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those experiencing other forms of disadvantage. The majority of our students come from families that speak English as an Additional Language. The programs seek to compliment the skills that students are learning at school, through providing a space where they can receive extra assistance, practice, and grow in confidence. In addition, the programs aim to bring students together facing similar circumstances and encourage them to learn and practice important social skills.
Volunteer tutors work with groups of up to 2-3 students, assisting them to complete their school homework or using the available resources (ipads, worksheets, text books etc.) at the program. Tutors usually develop rapport with a particular group or individual student, and work with them on a regular basis.
Volunteers are expected to complete the following tasks:
Provide tutoring or reading support for individuals or small groups of 2-4 students.
Assist with supervision of students.
Assist with set up and pack up.
Comply with all Program policies and procedures.
To report any concerns to Program Coordinator and assist to maintain a safe work environment.
Working with Children Check.
Induction Training With an Interview.
National Criminal History Check.
Another program will be starting in Geelong shortly.
