Play and Learn Preschool Program - St Vincent de Paul Society NSW
Volunteer at one of our established Domestic Violence & Homelessness Refuges for women and their young children. Contribute to the positive development of preschool and primary school aged children through this early intervention program. Through the writing of programs, you will stimulate the cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing of these young children and also play a part in building a relationship of trust, therein giving a ‘hand up’. Find innovative ways to assist and support the mothers through this respite care program.
The clients in our refuges require support and respite care which will be provided by the engagement of their young children in this program. As a volunteer for this program you will:
Write and implement programs: Create stimulating and engaging play activities to enable the building of trusting and positive relationships with the children and their mothers.
Giving a Hand Up: Our children are vulnerable and have been exposed to trauma at a very early developmental stage in their lives. This program will provide the opportunity through play to develop their social skills.
Students will have the opportunity to engage with mothers and their young children living in short term crisis accommodation. Volunteering alongside people who are working with vulnerable women and children, students will develop a greater understanding of disadvantage and homelessness.
Each student will have be successful in completing the following:
