Emergency, safety and security on the Melbourne Campus

Emergency and Safety

Emergency evacuation procedures are established for Melbourne Campus and drills are held periodically to familiarise all occupants. An Emergency Control Organisation with fully trained wardens looks after these procedures at the University. All General Learning Areas have evacuation notices posted as well as information located in the atrium on all levels. Sprinklers, smoke detectors and alarms are fitted throughout the Campus and ACU security and campus staff are automatically notified when an alarm is activated.

If an emergency occurs follow the directions of Designated Fire Wardens recognisable by hats and red vests. If no staff are present, leave the building by the nearest fire-isolated stairwell (follow the green exit signs).

In the event of an emergency, you will hear an audible alert alarm at which point you should prepare to be ready to evacuate. Flashing lights on all levels show orange for 'prepare' status and red for 'evacuation' status.

Security

Security Officers patrol the Campus at all times. If you need to contact Security, you can call 600 from any of the house phones located in the atrium on each level in the main building and in the foyer of the Mercy and Christ Lecture Theatres. Alternatively you can call 0418 548 811.
