Economics and enviro science top rankings

Economics and environmental science at ACU received the top rankings for Teaching Quality, Generic Skills of our Graduates and Overall Student Satisfaction in the recently published Good Universities Guide for 2011.

ACU was the only university in NSW to top the rankings in each of the categories in economics, and was one of only two universities in Australia to top the rankings in all three categories for economics.

In addition, ACU was the only university in Sydney to receive the top ranking in all three categories for environmental science and was one of only four universities in Australia to achieve the top ranking in all three categories.

Dr Tony Stokes, Head of School of Arts and Sciences (NSW & ACT), said that these are not one-off results, but follow on from the University’s excellent performance in these same areas over the last few years.

“The School is well-known for its high level of quality teaching,” he said. “The Good Universities Guide compares us to other universities in Australia in our discipline areas. While many of our disciplines are part of a larger category such as biosciences in nursing or in areas such as humanities, there are two areas that are only taught in the School of Arts and Sciences (NSW & ACT).  These are economics and environmental science, and the results from these disciplines are exceptional."

“The efforts and achievements of my fellow economics lecturer, Dr Sarah Wright, and the environmental science team of Dr Brian Bicknell, Dr Pre DeSilva, Dr Vaughan Monamy, Dr Cliff Seery and Dr Jennifer Taylor reflect the high quality of staff that we have at ACU.  We are also very fortunate to have a number of high quality sessional lecturers who have contributed to these fine results.”
