ACU Melbourne staff show hidden talents
Staff at the Melbourne Campus recently displayed their hidden artistic talent at the 'Staff Art Show', on display at ACU's public gallery on Brunswick Street.
Peter Thompson, Property and Facilities Assistant (Campus Operations) surprised staff and students with his work TAO of Kung Fu, a sophisticated piece of martial arts training equipment, hand crafted from recycled timber in Peter's garage.
Peter said he stumbled across the idea by accident.
"I decided to make it one day while thinking of how to make an all in one training system. The name means way of kung fu or path of kung fu," he said.
"My training started way back in 1969 doing karate, then shaolin kung fu, karate, kung fu, tea kwon do, tia chi and chi gong."
Associate Vice-Chancellor (Melbourne), Chris Sheargold, said that the staff art show is a great opportunity to learn about each other.
"These events develop a sense of community and make us want to get to know one another a lot better," he said.
