The Reverend Tim Costello urges global approach to fight climate change
World Vision CEO, the Reverend Tim Costello, urged a global approach to fight climate change when he spoke at Australian Catholic University's social justice forum in Ballarat last week.
In a lecture entitled A new politics for the planet: governance in an age of globalisation, Rev Costello said climate change was the single biggest issue facing humanity at this time, and Australia's target emissions reduction of five per cent by 2020 was not enough.
"We need global governance for a global village," he said. "The poorest nations are already paying with their lives, 330,000 people died last year because of climate change."
The guest lecture was hosted by the Ballarat Aquinas Social Concerns committee and attended by more than 100 ACU staff and students.
