Melbourne versus Ballarat Cup

Students from the Melbourne Campus travelled up the highway recently to play in the inaugural Melbourne versus Ballarat Cup.

The day consisted of two netball games and an AFL match at the Bungaree Sporting Club, with a total of 120 ACU students from Melbourne and Ballarat battling it out for the Cup.

Brendan Davey, President of the Melbourne Campus Student Association, said the day was a great success.

"It was a fantastic day of friendly competition between the two campuses, and hopefully the first of many in the years to come."

The Melbourne team won two out of the three matches to be named regional champions, with the Cup now sitting proudly in their trophy cabinet.

Mark Young, Campus Life Coordinator (Sport and National Projects), said the event was a great way to finish off a successful year of ACU sport.

"We have a proud history of AFL results and this event ensures that we maintain our sports development in netball and AFL, the two largest participation sports in the Victorian region for ACU," he said.

"The Ballarat and Melbourne sport convenors have worked hard all year as a team and this event is another example of the high-quality sporting programs we have developed in 2009," he added.
