NSW Governor launches child protection initiative
New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir recently launched a child protection initiative at ACU's Strathfield Campus (Mount Saint Mary), as part of Child Protection Week.
Lecturers in the University's Education Faculty have helped write a range of child protection resources for parents, teachers and carers, including information on the transition to high school for young people, an early learning resource and a childrens book - all based on the foundation of the Protective Behaviours program. The initiative was funded by the NSW Department of Community Services.
Her Excellency, Professor Bashir, said we must be ever vigilant in teaching our young people about protective behaviours.
"So many of the issues that are well known to the people here today have been brought to life through these excellent books," she said. "Thank you to all the good minds who want to make sure that every one of our children has a good life ahead of them."
Dr Cath Laws, President of Protective Behaviours NSW, said the new resources could be used by both children and adults to help keep safe and work towards reducing violence in the community.
