Library technician award prestigious industry prize
Brisbane Campus library technician, Trish D'Arcy, is the 2009 Library Technician of the Year.
Trish has been recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) National Library Technicians Group for the ongoing time and effort she dedicates to the ALIA group.
"I first became involved in ALIA in 1994 while I was a student," said Trish. "I have since become a member of the ALIA Standing Committee, involved in the library technician mentoring program and the organisation of various activities in Queensland."
Trish will be presented with her award at the biennial ALIA conference this week in Adelaide.
"I feel very committed to my work as a library technician. I do put a lot of work and effort in behind the scenes, but I have the drive. This is something practical and helpful that I can do," she said.
Trish also holds a Bachelor of Social Science in pastoral counselling from ACU.
"Working with a diverse range of both staff and students, it is important for me to have an empathic ear," she said. "My social science degree has helped my interactions with people and I understand what's going on."
