Ian is an Administrative Officer in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Melbourne Campus and a MPhil candidate.
How would you spend your ideal day?
On Broadway or the West End with a cafe breakfast then a matinee and evening musicals. Rinse and repeat.
In life I have learnt…
That saying no isn't always a bad thing.
Something that inspires me…
Anyone who has a passion for their career is infectious.
What would surprise people most about your job?
That my other job is singing in Suade, Australia's Number 1 male a cappella group! www.suade.net
What has been the most significant development in your field since starting your career?
The reality TV era, where musicals are now cast by the audience through a TV show (How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?) rather than a panel of theatre professionals.
If you could invite any five people to dinner, who would they be (and why)?
Jonathan Larson, composer of RENT, because no one else has had a chance to talk to him since he died; Jason Robert Brown, to discuss how he is surviving as an artistic musical theatre composer in the age of the faux- and mega-musical; Valentino Rossi, so he can teach me how to ride like him; Stephen Sondheim, just because; and, Idina Menzel, because she's an amazing performer and not too hard on the eye, either.
