Bed race for good cause at Canberra Campus
A charity fundraiser bed race was recently held at the Canberra Campus (Signadou) for the Epilepsy Association ACT.
Teams of students and staff raced hospital beds around the University's car park to raise funds and awareness for the Epilepsy Association. The use of hospital beds was symbolic of the health care system and the 4000 to 6000 Canberrans (or 3-4 per cent of the total population) who have been diagnosed with epilepsy.
Executive Director of the Epilepsy Association ACT, Jacinta Cummins, said the bed race initiative would make a significant contribution to the cause.
"While we are grateful to the local government for providing some funding, it does not stretch far enough to provide the help people with epilepsy need and deserve," she said. "It is through the generosity of people such as staff and students at ACU that we can extend assistance to many who would otherwise miss out."
The bed race event raised a total of $500 and will be used to help provide information, counselling and personal support for people with epilepsy and their families.
