Brisbane Campus opens mental health clinic

ACU's Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo) has recently opened an on-campus psychology and counselling clinic, which aims to bring affordable mental health care to the area.

The ACU Brisbane Psychology and Counselling Clinic is staffed by Masters and Doctoral interns who are undertaking an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited postgraduate qualification in psychology at the University.

Clinic director, lecturer and specialist neuropsychologist, Jill Harding-Clark, said that all services carried out by the students are overseen by registered psychologists who are skilled clinicians in a wide variety of clinical and counselling approaches.

"The clinic aims to provide a high standard of service to the community at a low cost meeting  the need for affordable mental health care while providing our advanced students with priceless practical experience," she said.

The clinic offers a range of services including individual counselling, family therapy, child behaviour management and grief and loss counselling.

The initial consultation is free of charge, with the client provided with a treatment plan suited to their individual circumstances. All patients are formally assessed with problem identification, report writing and planned remediation.

A referral to the clinic is not required. Follow-up consultations start at $20 for a 50-minute session. For more information or to arrange an appointment, please call the clinic on 07 3623 7453.
