'Under the Influence: A history of alcohol in Australia'
A book uncovering the effects alcohol has played in Australian culture was launched in Sydney this week.
Examining the powerful effect of alcohol on everyone from individuals, families and communities to federal, state and local governments, 'Under the Influence: A history of alcohol in Australia', was co-authored by Professor Ross Fitzgerald, Professorial Fellow at Australian Catholic University (ACU), and Trevor Jordan from Queensland University of Technology.
"Alcohol has played a fundamental role in Australian politics and culture ever since the arrival of the First Fleet," Professor Fitzgerald said.
"In 'Under the Influence' we have looked at all aspects, from alcohol advertising, under-age drinking and gender influences, to alcohol-fuelled violence and the boorish behaviour of some of our leading sports stars," he said.
