The North Sydney Campus (MacKillop) Student Centre was renamed the Isabel Menton Centre at the recent Mary MacKillop Centenary celebrations.

The Centre is named in honour of the late Sister Isabel Menton, who played a significant role in the early establishments of the University.

In 1956, Isabel was appointed Principal of St Joseph’s Training College, which later expanded to form the Catholic College of Education. In 1991, the College amalgamated with several others and was named Australian Catholic University.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Learning and Teaching) Professor Anne Cummins, said Sister Isabel always encouraged students to strive for excellence and to see further study as central to their professional lives.

“She would be pleased to see that current ACU staff have continued to share her ideals,” she said.

The Centre was officially opened and blessed by Bishop Anthony Fisher OP.
