My Little KingA still from My Little King.

Short film features in international festival

My Little King (2008), a short film written by Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo) staff member, Dee Dee Shi, was recently screened at the St George Bank Brisbane International Film Festival.

The film was featured in the festival as a finalist in The Courier-Mail Queensland Short Film Competition.

My Little King follows six-year-old Samuel, who reluctantly spends the night in a car park waiting for his father to return from the blackjack table.

Dee Dee said her script deals with themes of love and trust.

“The father breaks his word and agreement with his son Samuel. He betrays his son by driving to the casino again, leaving his son alone  in the darkness of the car park while he gambles,” said Dee Dee.

“The film shows how gambling is madness. When you lose, you can lose the most important thing- family.”

My Little King also featured in the LA Short Film Festival in July.
The film was directed by Martin Moynihan and produced by Zillah Marie.
