Professor delivers keynote address in Taipei

Melbourne Campus (St Patrick’s) Faculty of Education member, Associate Professor Joseph Zajda, recently delivered an invitational keynote address at the International Conference on Educational Paradigms and Local Governance, at the National Taiwan University in Taipei.

The keynote address, ‘Centralisation and Decentralisation in Education: Implications for Standards and Quality’, was translated into Chinese and published in the Conference Proceedings.

Associate Professor Zajda’s visit was sponsored by the Ministry of Education, National Science Council, President of the Taiwan Association for Local Educational Development and the Dean of the College of Education of the National Taiwan Normal University.

In July, Associate Professor Zajda and Mr John Whitehouse from the University of Melbourne presented a paper, ‘Diverse Representations in Teaching the 1917 Revolution in Russia’ at the National Conference of the National History Association of Australia.

Associate Professor Zajda has also recently had four books published, which are scheduled for release in September.  These publications are: Nation-Building, Identity and Citizenship Education: Cross-Cultural Perspectives; Globalisation, Policy and Comparative Research: Discourses of Globalisation; Comparative Information Technology: Languages, Societies, and the Internet; and, Race, Ethnicity and Gender in Education: Cross Cultural Understands.
