Centenary of Blessed Mary MacKillop’s death
To commemorate the Centenary of Blessed Mary MacKillop’s death, ACU has organised a series of events across its campuses over the coming months.
Next Wednesday, 12 August, the University’s North Sydney Campus (MacKillop) will host the following events.
- 5pm - Mass, Mary MacKillop Memorial Chapel, Mary MacKillop Place, Mount Street, North Sydney.
- 6pm - Blessing of the Isabel Menton Centre by Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP (Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Sydney). Level 4, James Carroll Building, North Sydney Campus (MacKillop), 40 Edward Street, North Sydney.
- 7pm - A lecture and panel discussion about the historical and contemporary relevance of the work of Mary MacKillop. Leone Ryan Auditorium, North Sydney Campus, 40 Edward Street, North Sydney.
The Melbourne Campus (St Patrick’s) will hold two events to mark the occasion.
- On Thursday, 13 August a public lecture, Will the real Mary Mackillop please stand up!, will be held at 6pm in the Christ Lecture Theatre.
- On Saturday, 15 August, a symphony performance Mass will take place at 7pm. The Mass will include words from Blessed Mary MacKillop herself, as well as the story of her life, struggle and the founding of her order, the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.
