Pride of Australia
Senior nursing lecturer at the University's North Sydney Campus (MacKillop), Cindy Leigh, was recently named a finalist in the Pride of Australia Medal for 2009 in the category Fair Go.
Cindy was recognised for encouraging, supporting and inciting a passion for nursing. Cindy has been at the forefront of supporting and integrating international students, helping improve their communication skills and providing culturally appropriate information to assist migrant students study in the new environment.
Dr Imke Fischer, a fellow senior nursing lecturer commented on Cindy’s nomination: “At a time when the papers are full of negative stories about the treatment of international students, it is heartwarming that one of our staff has been nominated for her tireless work with these students,” she said. “Congratulations from us all Cindy, we are proud of you.”
An awards ceremony was held in late June to formally recognise and congratulate the finalists.
