Enhancing access opportunities

In 2010, Australian Catholic University will introduce a new bonus entry scheme to ensure all students have equitable access to higher education.

The scheme will focus on selection criteria across three main areas:

• Subject performance
• Geographic region
• Low-income background

accessACU is particularly important following the government’s response to the Bradley Review of Higher Education, which supported the proposal that 40 per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds be university-educated by 2025.

A significant factor towards achieving this goal will be the availability of equity programs for students living in rural or disadvantaged areas, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, or those who have demonstrated significant achievements in subjects relevant to their chosen course.

Providing the opportunity for higher education, regardless of background or beliefs, is also aligned with the University’s Mission to foster and advance knowledge, and make a specific contribution to its local, national and international communities.

accessACU will ensure that ACU National is addressing equity and access needs within the community. Further details on the scheme are available from the ACU National website.
