Adjunct Professor, the Hon Mike Reynolds, AM
The Hon Mike Reynolds, AM has joined ACU’s Public Policy Institute as an Adjunct Professor. Mike was the Queensland State Labor Member for Townsville from 1998-2009 and became Minister for Emergency Services and then Minister for Child Safety in the Beattie Government.During his last term he served as Speaker of Parliament.
Prior to entering Parliament Mike was Mayor of Townsville (1980-89). He also held several academic positions including: Professor of Local Government Studies at the University of Canberra and Director, Northern Australia Social Research Institute and Director, Centre for Social and Welfare Research, at James Cook University. Mike has co-authored several books and contributed numerous chapters on local government and social issues.
Mike brings to the PPI a strong focus on regional, community and local government issues and will be developing several research projects in these areas. Mike is based in Townsville.
