Our aims
Core roles
The Public Policy Institute's core roles are to provide:
- research to inform the development of quality policy
- commentary and analysis on critical issues to lead debate
- engagement with the policy community to access ideas, propose solutions and transfer knowledge.
Objectives
To meet its objectives the Public Policy Institute will:
- adopt an explicitly ethical approach to its public policy advocacy role
- identify major priority policy issues connected to the University's Mission and values that warrant research and advocacy
- seek the best available evidence, research and scholarship to inform rigorous analysis of issues
- establish specific research programs on priority issues.
- seek partnerships across universities, government, business, the Church and the community to maximise inputs and support for agreed policy research projects
- provide opportunities through workshops, forums and issue papers for interested persons and groups to share ideas and knowledge and develop viable solutions
- provide informed commentary on policy issues in the media to enhance policy debate and advocacy
- publish research outcomes in academic journals and periodicals of public opinion.
