Core roles

The Public Policy Institute's core roles are to provide:

  • research to inform the development of quality policy
  • commentary and analysis on critical issues to lead debate
  • engagement with the policy community to access ideas, propose solutions and transfer knowledge.

Objectives

To meet its objectives the Public Policy Institute will:

  • adopt an explicitly ethical approach to its public policy advocacy role
  • identify major priority policy issues connected to the University's Mission and values that warrant research and advocacy
  • seek the best available evidence, research and scholarship to inform rigorous analysis of issues
  • establish specific research programs on priority issues.
  • seek partnerships across universities, government, business, the Church and the community to maximise inputs and support for agreed policy research projects
  • provide opportunities through workshops, forums and issue papers for interested persons and groups to share ideas and knowledge and develop viable solutions
  • provide informed commentary on policy issues in the media to enhance policy debate and advocacy
  • publish research outcomes in academic journals and periodicals of public opinion.
