Institute of Legal Studies

The Institute of Legal Studies at Australian Catholic University is dedicated to the conduct of research in the spheres of international law, comparative constitutional law, international and national human rights law, public law, public accountability, and law and education.

In conducting its research and developing its associated educational programs, the Institute is guided by key concepts in Catholic social thought. The most relevant of these are:

  • A commitment to the inviolable human dignity of every human person
  • A commitment to the common good derived from an understanding of all peoples as interdependent
  • A commitment to non-violence in national and international affairs
  • A commitment to the recognition and realization of fundamental human rights
